BIO

Ryan Midnight (known earlier in his career as Earwig) began his life-long ska fandom in the mid 90s. In high school he hosted a weekly radio show, the Wrecking Machine, on WCVH, bringing the upbeat sound to anyone in listening distance. He also published two zines in the late 90s – The Magic Ate Ball and Jersey Chaos – offering reviews and commentary on the ska scene, and gaining attention from labels including Moon Records, Hellcat, and Asian Man Records.

After a too-long hiatus in the early 2000s, DJ Ryan Midnight was officially christened in 2014 after spinning several sets in Jersey City’s legendary record store, Iris Records. he quickly began DJing in support of ska bands across NYC including The Toasters, Voodoo Glow Skulls, and The Selecter.

In 2017, DJ Ryan Midnight began spinning ska records at Otto’s Shrunken Head in the East Village, started producing and hosting the weekly-ish podcast, 100% Ska Podcast, in 2018, and became a sought-after DJ for ska shows in the region.

In 2019 Ryan Midnight launched the Subway to Skaville series, hosting an assortment of local and regional ska bands, and fulfilling a long-time dream being a show producer. Over the past four years, the series has grown in popularity (merging along the way with Stephen Shafer’s Electric Avenue series), and in 2022 became a sought-after stop for bands touring through the East Coast.

Ryan Midnight continues to host the 100% Ska Podcast (now in its sixth year), DJing and hosting shows at Otto’s Shrunken Head, and supporting bands across NYC!  There is so much more to come in 2023 and beyond!
